APCO Expands International Advisory Council to Strengthen Growing Healthcare Offering in Asia
Singapore – June 30, 2020: Dr. Chew Suok Kai and Fredrik Nyberg, health experts with more than 60 years of experience between them, join more than 100 recognised global leaders as part of APCO Worldwide’s International Advisory Council (IAC), James Yi, managing director, Southeast Asia & Korea, announced today.
Based in Singapore, the new members will allow APCO to continue to provide invaluable counsel to more adeptly navigate a rapidly changing and increasingly complex political and market landscape in the region.
“I am thrilled to welcome Dr. Chew and Mr. Nyberg to our growing Asia IAC,” said Yi. “Their real-world knowledge and expertise will strengthen APCO’s core expertise across the health industry, including biotechnology, medical technology and public health.”
Chew is a senior advisor at Singapore’s Ministry of Health, with more than 30 years of experience working in the government, healthcare industry and academia. He has worked at the World Health Organization, served as the medical director of the Communicable Diseases Center and is a founding member of the Singapore Infectious Diseases Society.
Nyberg has more than 30 years of experience in healthcare and is the former CEO at the Asia Pacific Medical Technology Association (APACMed)—the first and only regional trade association for the medical device, equipment and in-vitro diagnostics industry. He is currently managing director of Asia Pacific’s Medtech Innovator, the industry’s nonprofit global accelerator for medical device, digital health and diagnostic companies.
APCO’s IAC is comprised of leaders and experts from across sectors, including former elected politicians, leaders of business and industry, academics, world-class journalists, NGO and non-profit pioneers, diplomats and policy experts. Chew and Nyberg are joining the Health Advisory Board sub-group of the IAC, consisting of high-level public health leaders, communications heads of large pharmaceutical and insurance companies, and former health policy officials.
“As the world faces unprecedented uncertainty due to the pandemic, APCO is ready to partner with our clients to adapt and thrive in this new normal,” Yi said. “With urgent demand for the healthcare industry to continuously innovate, we want to support growing bio-technology and healthcare firms tackle challenges and ultimately succeed in providing valuable and innovative change to the industry and society.”
Chew and Nyberg join Aida Greenbury—a leading expert in sustainability and risk management strategist—and a growing team of communications, public affairs, healthcare, technology and corporate branding experts at APCO, with deep ties in Southeast Asia and around the world, including Ambassador Devinda R. Subasinghe, Rami Sharaf, Mike Chinoy, Yuli Ismartono, JJ Lee, Stephanie Tan, Rasheed Abu Bakar, Lance Leggitt, Leslie Norwalk, Dr. Kavita Patel and Peter Urbanowicz, among others.
