APCO Worldwide Expands Its Strategic Partnerships and Global Engagement Capabilities

September 20, 2022

Washington – September 20, 2022: At the onset of the United Nations General Assembly High-Level Week, APCO Worldwide expands its Strategic Partnerships and Global Engagement practice, Founder and Executive Chairman Margery Kraus announced today.

“We live in an increasingly fragmented and shock-prone world, and we need more innovative partnerships and collaboration mechanisms among actors across generations, sectors and geographies,” Kraus said. “Bringing diverse stakeholders and perspectives to the table to catalyze action and progress has always been a foundational pillar of APCO’s work and ethos as they enable positive societal and business impact for the organizations and clients we serve. I am delighted to see these capabilities grow, as the world community comes together to chart a more inclusive and resilient future.”

“I am particularly proud of the many shared achievements with our clients and partners, helping advance critical issues on the global agenda today, from climate action and net zero transitions to global health and future pandemic preparedness, digital inclusion, future of skills and jobs and much more,” said Anna Tunkel, executive director and head of Strategic Partnerships and Global Engagement. “We help inform our firm’s and clients’ engagements with key global agenda-setting platforms and processes, from the UN General Assembly Week, COPs, the World Economic Forum and many other multi-stakeholder processes and fora. We provide strategic counsel to leaders, shaping cross-sectoral initiatives and advising on advocacy, thought leadership and communications strategies.”

APCO has a long track record partnering with innovative organizations that help multiply business and societal impact, including the United Nations Foundation, MIT Solve, Vector Center and most recently, Nexus Global.

In recent months, APCO has strengthened its capabilities by bringing on expanded expertise, including Frederic Sicre, former managing director and executive board member of the World Economic Forum (WEF), who joined APCO Worldwide’s International Advisory Council (IAC), based in Dubai, and Jean de La Rochebrochard, director for Strategic Partnerships and Global Engagement, who will help build long-term and trusted relationships with multilateral organizations based in Europe. They join a deep bench of senior experts, including Judit Arenas, former UN official and one of lead negotiators on the Sustainable Development Goals, Heather McGeory, former COO of We Mean Business and APCO’s climate and sustainability leader, Elizabeth Cohan, former White House official and advisor to G-20 and G-7 sherpas, Julie Jack, global ESG lead, and Denielle Sachs, global philanthropy expert and leader of APCO Impact.

This expertise complements the wealth of insights catalyzed by the IAC, which brings together more than 150 recognized policy experts, business and industry leaders, former elected politicians, academics, renowned journalists, diplomats, nonprofit pioneers and other global leaders. They include: Kathy Calvin, former president and CEO, UN Foundation; Dan Glickman, former U.S. Secretary of Agriculture; Pari Esfandiari, co-founder and president, Global Technopolitics Forum; Barie Carmichael, former vice president and chief communications officer, Dow Corning Corporation; and John Defterios, former CNN Business emerging markets editor and anchor in Abu Dhabi.

Tune in to the September 21 event APCO will be co-hosting in partnership with the UN Foundation during the UN General Assembly High-Level Week on “New Partnerships to Unlock a More Sustainable Future” (8:30-10:30 ET). It will bring together leaders representing the private and public sectors, philanthropy, civil society, multilateral organizations and next generation of change makers, for a discussion on catalyzing cross-sectoral collaboration to address today’s pressing challenges.

For more than 38 years, APCO has been a trusted advisor and partner to private, public and non-profit clients as they try to identify and manage new and emerging issues, challenges and opportunities around the world. Established by Kraus as a single-person operation in 1984, APCO has grown to a global advisory and advocacy communications consultancy with offices in more than 30 markets and experience working in more than 80 markets globally, providing in-depth advice, perceptive guidance and creative approaches for its clients.
