Former UK Conservative Party Chief of Staff Zoe Thorogood Returns to APCO Worldwide

London – 10 October, 2019: Zoe Thorogood, a UK strategic communications and crisis management expert with more than 17 years of experience, will return to APCO Worldwide Steve Earl, managing director, London, announced today. Thorogood will re-join APCO as a senior director on 23rd October.

“Zoe will bring unmatchable expertise and experience to APCO, having been at the thick of some of the most tumultuous times in the UK’s recent political history and led on communications counsel in an ever-evolving environment,” Earl said. “As our crisis and issues lead in the UK, she will enable clients to benefit from her long track record in communications and her most recent work at the sharp end of political communications.”

Thorogood previously served as a director in both APCO’s Washington, D.C., and London offices, before joining the Conservative Party’s Central HQ as chief of staff to the chairman and director of external relations.

“I am delighted to be reunited with my brilliant colleagues at APCO and I look forward to collaborating with a diverse team of professionals across APCO’s well-established global network,” Thorogood said.

Thorogood’s expertise covers a broad array of communication disciplines, including UK government, journalism, media relations, public relations, public affairs, corporate communications, crisis management and litigation support.

She previously served as a political special advisor to Sir Eric Pickles, Secretary of State for the Department of Communities and Local Government, where she led communications strategy across all of the department’s policy areas including: housing and planning, local government, fire, integration and faith relations. She also served as a campaign press advisor to British Prime Minister David Cameron during his successful 2015 re-election campaign and worked for the UK Conservative Party ahead of the 2010 general election. Thorogood started her career in journalism, as a news editor for GMTV, one of the most popular breakfast television news shows in the UK.

She received her BA with honours in Multimedia Journalism from Bournemouth University.
