Distinguished Global Health Care Expert Joins APCO Worldwide’s Health Advisory Board

January 9, 2019

Washington (August 1, 2016) — Jeff Richardson, a longtime health care advocate and former vice president of the AbbVie Foundation, joins APCO Worldwide’s Health Advisory Board (HAB), a specialty group of its International Advisory Council (IAC) announced Margery Kraus, APCO founder and executive chairman. As a member of the HAB, Richardson will advise APCO’s clients on global health, HIV/AIDS and corporate philanthropy matters.

“Jeff has extensive experience in health care promotion, education and advocacy,” said Kraus. “His expertise will help our clients navigate an increasingly complex landscape and prepare them for success in the years to come. We’re delighted to welcome Jeff to our Health Advisory Board.”

APCO’s HAB is a global, high-level group of public health and policy leaders, former Administration officials and former trade association executives, that work with APCO’s health care practice to provide clients with executive-level counsel on health care issues and industry trends.

Richardson most recently served as vice president of the AbbVie Foundation, the charitable and philanthropic arm of AbbVie, a global biopharmaceutical company, where he oversaw the foundation’s international giving programs from 2013 to 2016.

Prior to joining AbbVie, Richardson served as vice president for the Abbott Fund, where he led the effort to establish the fund’s first international giving program, which focused on helping children and families in resource-poor countries affected by HIV/AIDS.

“I’m very excited to join APCO’s Health Advisory Board,” Richardson said. “I look forward to helping the firm and its clients advance global health priorities.”

Before joining the Abbott Fund, Richardson was a managing director of Burson-Marsteller’s Global Healthcare Practice. He also held a senior position with the Indiana Department of Human Services and the state’s Family and Social Services.

Before joining Indiana’s state government, Richardson served as executive director of GMHC, the nation’s largest HIV/AIDS organization, and taught health policy as an adjunct professor at City University of New York and public affairs at the Indiana University School of Public and Environmental Affairs.

“Jeff is a tremendous addition to the HAB and brings deep expertise and passion around global health and corporate responsibility to our clients. Our health care team is excited to be able to partner with him in serving our clients,” said Courtney Piron, executive director and chair of the global health care practice at APCO Worldwide.

Richardson joins a group of distinguished experts on APCO’s Health Advisory Board including:

  • Kavita Patel, former director of policy for the White House Office of Public Engagement and Intergovernmental Affairs
  • Leslie V. Norwalk, former acting administrator for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services
  • Bob Kocher, M.D., former special assistant to President Barack Obama for health care
  • Lanhee Chen, former senior official at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services
  • Derek Yach, former senior vice president of global health and agricultural policy at PepsiCo
