Selim Bingol, a member of APCO’s International Advisory Council, brings a wealth of experience as a senior communications leader and executive operations committee member. Throughout his dynamic career, Selim has consistently delivered award-winning results across a comprehensive portfolio of business needs, including strategic media relations, internal communications, public policy, executive positioning, crisis communication and corporate brand management.

Selim has held key roles in globally recognized corporate organizations, most recently serving as the senior vice president and chief communications officer at Duke Energy, where he directed the company’s communications strategy and services. In this capacity, he provided crucial support for business segments, oversaw media relations, executive communications, brand management and digital communications.

Prior to his role at Duke Energy, Selim held the position of senior vice president of global communications at General Motors Co. During this pivotal time, he played a crucial role in enhancing the company’s reputation following its emergence from bankruptcy and the challenging “Government Motors” era. His responsibilities included executive positioning, media relations, employee/labor communications for a workforce of 200,000 employees worldwide, financial media relations and corporate philanthropy as chair of the GM Foundation. Before his tenure at General Motors, Selim served as senior vice president of corporate communications at AT&T, navigating the telecom giant through significant milestones, including multibillion-dollar mergers and acquisitions, the rollout of national broadband DSL service, the introduction of U-Verse television service, and the creation of Cingular Wireless in partnership with BellSouth.

Selim’s career also includes senior partner positions at Fleishman-Hillard Communications, one of the world’s largest public relations agencies. He managed the agency’s San Antonio office, building a million-dollar business with clients such as Visa. Earlier in his career, he worked with a leading grassroots advocacy firm and served as press secretary for then-U.S. Rep. Jon Kyl (R-Az.) in Washington, D.C.

A graduate of the University of Virginia in 1982 with a degree in International Relations, Selim continues to be a distinguished and influential figure in the field of communications.
