APCO Worldwide Bolsters its European Expertise

Brussels – 11 December 2018: Karl Falkenberg, a prominent European Commission veteran, and Yves Bertoncini, a renowned European affairs expert, have joined APCO Worldwide as senior counselors, announced Claire Boussagol, President, Europe and Managing Director of APCO’s Brussels office.
“In today’s world, trade, environment and politics around Brexit are among our clients’ biggest challenges. We are fully equipped to help them navigate the geopolitical and policy landscapes,” said Boussagol. “Karl and Yves’ distinguished careers as leading experts on European issues offer an in-depth understanding of the EU landscape and they are a tremendous addition to our team. We’re delighted to welcome them to APCO.”
Falkenberg brings deep knowledge of EU Trade and Environmental issues to the APCO team following his long and varied career at the European Commission, which he initially joined in 1977. In his most recent Commission role at, he served as Director General for Environment, initiating the Commission’s work on the circular economy, and leading climate change negotiations and all domestic and international environmental policies. In his previous post as Deputy Director General for Trade, he was responsible for all EU bilateral trade relations. In 2017, he joined Oxford University as a senior fellow.
Bertoncini, a consultant and expert on European affairs, has worked in the French Prime Minister’s services, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and at the French Insurance association. From 2011-2017 he served as the director of the Jacques Delors Institute in Paris and has taught European issues as a visiting professor at the Corps des Mines in Paris, College of Europe in Bruges, Institute of Political Studies in Paris and at the National School of Administration in Strasbourg. He is the author of numerous books, articles and policy papers on European issues. He is the president of the Mouvement Européen-France and Vice-President of the European Movement International.
