Thomas-Greenfield is a distinguished American diplomat who served as the 31st U.S. Ambassador to the UN from 2021 to 2025, representing the United States at the highest levels of international diplomacy and serving as a member of the president’s Cabinet. Prior to her UN appointment, she was the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs from 2013 to 2017, where she played a pivotal role in shaping U.S. policy across the African continent and advancing partnerships on issues ranging from economic development to peace and security.

Throughout her four-decade career in foreign service, Thomas-Greenfield held senior diplomatic posts in Liberia, Nigeria, Switzerland, Pakistan, Kenya, Gambia and Jamaica.
