Ellie Rutland is a director in the crisis management and litigation communications practice at APCO. She has years of experience in crisis communications and reputation management, including crisis planning, incident response, and litigation communications.
Ms. Rutland provides her clients with knowledge in a variety of industries, including food, technology, energy, healthcare, telecommunications, and legal. Her focus includes helping clients manage issues that threaten their brand, ranging from product recalls to data security incidents to litigation matters. To help improve communications and response on behalf of her clients, Ms. Rutland has developed and implemented crisis preparedness programs for companies looking to strengthen and expand crisis resilience. She has planned and executed several training exercises to coach employees on these policies to improve crisis response. These include crisis drills, tabletop exercises, and media coaching sessions. In addition, she has extensive experience in traditional and digital media analysis, drafting compelling communications materials, as well as developing media relationships to achieve positive news mentions on behalf of clients.
Prior to joining APCO, Ms. Rutland spent nearly five years at LEVICK, where she managed crisis planning, response, and reputation management for a range of clients. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Communications from James Madison University.
