Bruce Ramshaw, M.D., member of APCO’s International Advisory Council, is adjunct professor in the Graduate and Executive MBA program in the Haslam College of Business at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and is founder and managing partner of CQ Insights, a health care data analytics company. Dr. Ramshaw has served in a number of surgical leadership positions including former chief of general surgery, University of Missouri, Columbia, former chair of the Department of Surgery at The University of Tennessee, Knoxville and is a past president of The Americas Hernia Society.

Dr. Ramshaw has spent his entire career involved in changing the health care system. For the first 15 years, the changes involved the evolution of minimally invasive abdominal surgery and has performed surgery in many countries around the world including Russia, the Republic of Georgia, Singapore, and in several European countries. For the past 15 years, Dr. Ramshaw has been focused on why our global health care system is not sustainable and what would a sustainable health care system look like. He has been applying systems and data science principles to real patient care and has given many keynote talks on the subject including in Australia, China, the UK and in a TEDx talk in the United States.

In addition to expertise in surgery and health care, Dr. Ramshaw also has expertise in biomaterials science, systems science, data science (big data, data analytics, etc.), business process intelligence, value-based clinical quality improvement and entrepreneurship – including medical device development and commercialization of ideas.

Dr. Ramshaw completed his undergraduate degree in psychology and his Medical Doctor degree at the University of Florida in Gainesville.  He completed his general surgery residency at Georgia Baptist Medical Center in Atlanta Georgia.
