Creating access and action at world’s largest climate event
OPPORTUNITY
The UNFCCC COP is now the biggest and most attended climate summit in the world. Private sector involvement at COP has evolved greatly. Still, navigating a global convening of this scale and achieving maximum impact remains a challenge for most companies. At the most recent COP28 in Dubai, APCO advised government officials, corporate executives and philanthropists as they strategized their presence on the ground and how they would contribute to the overall goals of the conference.
SOLUTION
APCO’s support spanned sectors, locations and engagement platforms. We kicked off the event, supporting the committee on the first official Trade Day and choreographed the announcement by the President of an island country on their commitment to a climate, peace and security initiative. We ran two weeks of programming for a major logistics client, launched the first global Climate Action Confidence Tracker, in partnership with the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) and hosted a full diary of our own events for clients and friends. We also drove media coverage on the ground at APCO’s Live Studio, where presidents, CEOs and executives shared their stories across global media—with U.S. Climate Envoy John Kerry as a regular guest.
IMPACT
APCO delivered significant access and impact for our clients at COP28. We brought together countries, organizations and businesses, mobilizing resources to support new initiatives hosting events across the blue and green zone, innovation hub and the climate action pavilion. COP28 Live Storybook Studio secured nearly 100 interviews and unique pieces of reporting, making in-depth, strategic coverage possible and accessible in a way that’s never been done before.
