Blockchain for Europe

Establishing a united policy voice for blockchain innovators in Europe

APCO helped create and run the secretariat of Blockchain for Europe, the association that represents organizations whose business originates from blockchain technology at the EU and Member State levels. Since the current EU policy landscape on blockchain is fragmented and often dominated by incumbents, APCOs saw an opportunity to support the foundation of an association representing organizations whose aim is to use blockchain technology to develop the businesses of the future. With member companies such as Binance, Ripple, Cardano Foundation, Parity/Web3 Foundation, Filecoin, CELO, Fetch.ai and Bloq, among others, the main objective of the association is to engage in constructive dialogue with regulators to help ensure future-proof policy outcomes and drive the adoption of blockchain technology in Europe.

Blockchain for Europe was officially launched in November 2018 at the Blockchain for Europe Summit in the European Parliament. With seven panels hosted by different members of parliament on various blockchain-related topics such as tokenized economy, digital identity and supply chains, the event was a major success. Since then, Blockchain for Europe established itself as the go-to association at the EU level, similar to its US partner, the Blockchain Association. The focus of its regulatory work lies on issues surrounding crypto-assets, stablecoins, CBDC and programmable money, as well as DeFi, cryptotaxation and AML (including work within the FATF and other global bodies).
