Will Shafroth is a nationally recognized leader in conservation, public lands, and philanthropy, with more than four decades of experience spanning nonprofit leadership, federal and state government, and policy innovation.
From 2015 to 2025, Shafroth served as president and CEO of the National Park Foundation, the official charitable partner of the National Park Service. During his tenure, the Foundation raised more than $1.5 billion to conserve natural resources, preserve the nation’s history and culture, and expand public access to America’s national parks.
Prior to joining the National Park Foundation, Shafroth founded Red Sheep Consulting LLC, where he advised philanthropic institutions, nonprofit organizations, and conservation leaders on strategy, governance, and policy engagement. His clients included the National Park Foundation, National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, Resources Legacy Fund, Recreational Equipment Inc., Gates Family Foundation, America’s Conservation PAC, and the American Alpine Club.
Shafroth previously held senior leadership roles at the U.S. Department of the Interior, serving as counselor to the secretary for America’s Great Outdoors and earlier as principal deputy assistant secretary for Fish and Wildlife and Parks. As a presidential appointee, he oversaw the National Park Service and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service on legislative, budgetary, management, and land conservation matters, and represented the Secretary on multiple national boards and councils, including the National Park Foundation, the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation, and the Everglades Restoration Task Force.
In addition to his executive roles, Shafroth has contributed extensive board and civic service, including leadership positions with the Land Trust Alliance and Resources Legacy Fund, service on the Marin County Planning Commission, and long‑standing involvement in public education through the Boulder Valley School District. He currently serves as a board member and advisor to the CEO of Under Canvas and teaches as a lecturer at the University of California, Santa Barbara’s Bren School of Environmental Science and Management, where he focuses on practical approaches to achieving policy and programmatic outcomes.
Shafroth holds a master of public administration from Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government and a bachelor of arts in Political Science and Environmental Studies from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
