Mr. Perkins has been part of the Washington, D.C., media scene for over thirty years. He is known for over twenty years at Fox5 as an evening and morning news anchor and as the morning weatherman. Previously he worked as a weatherman and entertainment reporter for nearly seven years on ABC’s Good Morning America.
Mr. Perkins’ career started as a performer and a stand-up comedian in D.C.’s thriving comedy club circuit. In just a short time, Mr. Perkins went from being an open mic act to being a show closer, and he then appeared at clubs, colleges and theaters across the country. In Washington, D.C., some of his fondest memories are of opening for headliners like Smokey Robinson, Aretha Franklin and Sinbad.
Mr. Perkins time doing stand-up led to Donnie Simpson hiring him to join his #1 rated morning radio show on WKYS-FM. That, in turn, led to Mr. Perkins being asked to host the TV show DC20 Breakaway, for which he won an Emmy award.
Mr. Perkins success at Fox caught the eyes of ABC Television in 1998, and the next year, he joined Good Morning America, serving as the weatherman and feature reporter alongside show hosts Diane Sawyer, Charlie Gibson and Robin Roberts. During his time at ABC, Tony covered dozens of hurricanes and major weather events and appeared on other TV shows, including Jimmy Kimmel Live, Larry King Live and the American Music Awards. Over the years, Mr. Perkins interviewed many notable persons, including Stevie Wonder, Ringo Starr, Crosby Stills Nash and Young and B.B. King.
Mr. Perkins returned to the DC area and Fox 5 in 2006. After serving as a weatherman for the re-named Fox News Morning, he became co-anchor of the morning show. His success on that show led to him being named the co-anchor of the stations’ prime-time newscasts. In short order, Fox 5’s News at Ten and News at Eleven became the regions’ top-rated newscasts and Mr. Perkins won his second Emmy Award.
Mr. Perkins joined MAJIC 102.3 & 92/7 in 2018 to reunite with Donnie Simpson. He also served as co-anchor of the WUSA9 morning show Get Up DC from 2019 to 2022.
Mr. Perkins graduated from American University in Washington, D.C., with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications and Cinema Studies. He currently lives in the Washington area with his wife and son.
