Sten Tolgfors is Partner and Public Affairs Director at Rud Pedersen Public Affairs in Stockholm. He served as Swedish Minister for Defence from 2007-2012. During his time in office, he initiated the most comprehensive reform of the Swedish Armed Forces in a century.
During the Swedish Presidency of the European Union in 2009, Mr. Tolgfors chaired the Ministers of Defence configuration in the General Affairs and External Relations Council. He led the Nordic Defence Co-operation in 2007 and 2011 and co-initiated the Nordic co-operation on civil contingencies management in 2009. In 2006-2007, Tolgfors served as Swedish Minister for Trade.
Mr. Tolgfors was elected Member of the Swedish Parliament in 1994, representing the Moderate Party, and remained in Parliament for 19 years, until 2013. While in Parliament, Mr. Tolgfors served on the Standing Committees on Foreign Affairs, a short period as its chairman, the Committee on Industry and Trade, the Committee on Social Insurance and the Committee on Education. Mr. Tolgfors was the party spokesman on education from 2003-2006. He was a member of the Moderate party’s National Board for 8 Years, between 2003 and 2011.
Mr. Tolgfors is a member of the Moderate Party, Swedish Red Cross Society and Rotary International. He received his Bachelor of Science in political science from Örebro University in Sweden.
