Ambassador, Former Minister for Foreign Affairs of Kenya
Ambassador Raychelle Omamo is a prominent Kenyan politician and legal professional who currently undertakes consultancy and advisory work in the areas of women’s empowerment, peace, and security.
From 1985 to 2002, she served as a Legal Counsel and Managing Partner at Omamo and Omamo Advocates, displaying exceptional expertise in legal matters. Between 2001 and 2003, Amb. Omamo served as the elected Chairperson/President of the Law Society of Kenya. In 2003 she became Kenya’s Ambassador to the Republic of France, with accreditations to Spain, the Holy See, Portugal, and Serbia, serving until 2009. She also served as the Permanent Representative of Kenya to UNESCO from 2003 to 2006.
After transitioning back to the legal profession, Amb. Omamo worked as a Senior Counsel at Coulson and Harney Advocates from 2010 to 2013. In 2012, she was conferred with the rank of Senior Counsel. From 2013 to 2020, she held the esteemed position of Cabinet Secretary/Minister for Defense, in 2014, she took on the additional role of Acting Cabinet Secretary/Minister for Labor and Social Services, showcasing her versatility and dedication to public service. From 2020 to 2022, Amb. Omamo has served as the Cabinet Secretary/Minister for Foreign Affairs.
