Killian MacDonald is a consultant in the Office of the Executive Chairman at APCO Worldwide. She uses her passion for cross-cultural storytelling and DE&I to support clients in a variety of industries, including cultural heritage, tourism, economic development, and consumer brands. Ms. MacDonald is a World Economic Forum Global Shaper (DC Hub) and a graduate of the McKinsey Management Program. She has on the ground experience in China, India, Italy, Saudi Arabia, Thailand and the United States.
Ms. MacDonald is a certified Protocol Officer by the Protocol School of Washington. She specializes in multicultural VIP and stakeholder engagement, having organized client activations in the U.S., Europe, and Middle East, including at global platforms such as WEF and UNGA. In addition, she works on pursuing new business opportunities for APCO, developing industry thought leadership, and supports APCO’s commitment to UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Prior to joining APCO, she worked on Secretary Jeh Johnson’s protocol team at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. She also worked for the External Engagement team in the U.S. State Department’s Office of Religion and Global Affairs.
Ms. MacDonald holds dual bachelor’s degrees in Public Communication and Religious Studies (with a concentration on Islam) from American University’s Honors Program. Her thesis on communications strategies to combat Islamophobia won on “Outstanding Presentation in Business, Strategy, and Communications” at the 2017 Honors Capstone Conference and received the “Outstanding Contribution to Promoting Diversity” award at the annual AU Public Communications Awards.
In addition, she achieved her certification in Digital Marketing from the Digital Marketing Institute in August of 2019. She is a member of the Public Relations Society of America, and is honored to serve on the Woodlands Academy Alumnae Association Board of Directors.
