Josh Cheung, creative director in APCO’s creative studio practice, based in Washington, D.C., has over fourteen years of design and art direction experience. Having worked as an award-winning designer on print, environmental and interactive design projects, Mr. Cheung serves as a trusted creative strategist and partner to help clients achieve their business and communication objectives in memorable and impactful ways.

Working closely with APCO’s Digital, Insight and Amplify teams, Mr. Cheung crafts informed, integrated and effective creative strategies and expressions that meet target audiences where they are with compelling messages and creative that yield tangible outcomes. From inspiring consumer behavior change, to galvanizing communities around key legislation, to shifting stakeholder perceptions, to building brand advocates, Mr. Cheung’s work to develop multichannel campaigns, corporate brand identities, branded content and marketing collateral has resulted in measurable growth and engagement for national and global clients in a variety of sectors.

In 2016, Mr. Cheung returned stateside after spending three years based in APCO’s Paris office, where he built and managed a regional team of designers as the design lead for the Europe region. While there, he partnered with cross-functional teams to create brand identities, digital campaigns and collateral redesigns that enabled both French and multinational companies to more deeply establish and build their presence in the country.

Mr. Cheung’s work has been published and seen in leading websites and publications, including NYTimes.com, Forbes, Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, Politico, CQ Today, Roll Call, the Diplomatic Courier, PRWeek, Mediabistro’s PRNewser and Medical Marketing and Media, among many others. His work has also been screened at several national and international film festivals, including the International Women’s Film Festival, 48HFP Filmapalooza, the Capitol Hill Film Classic and the Alexandria Film Festival. He has received recognition for his work from the PR Week Awards, PRNews Platinum PR Awards and the SABRE Awards, and he has been honored with GD USA’s American Inhouse Design Award, GD USA’s American Graphic Design Award, AMCP’s Hermes Creative Award, IAVA’s Communicator Award, the Videographer Award and three MarCom Awards.

Prior to joining APCO, Mr. Cheung worked as the marketing designer at WDG Architecture. As the principal communications designer at the architecture and interior design firm, Mr. Cheung managed the design of print and digital marketing materials and refreshed the firm’s visual identity to prepare for its expansion into new digital channels. Mr. Cheung began his career as a graphic designer in Boston at Mc|K Healthcare, a pharmaceutical advertising agency, where he designed B2B and B2C print ad campaigns, master sales aids, brand standards guides, exhibition displays and new business pitch materials for clients in the healthcare industry.

Mr. Cheung is a Posse scholar and graduate of Hamilton College in Clinton, N.Y., where he received a Bachelor of Arts in sociology and music. An award-winning musician and composer, Mr. Cheung’s original music and scores can be heard in numerous client projects, including broadcast TV and radio spots, brand anthems, mini-documentaries and short films.
