Former lieutenant governor of Florida

Carlos Lopez-Cantera was the 19th lieutenant governor of Florida, serving from 2014 to 2019. He was appointed by Gov. Rick Scott in January 2014 to fill a vacancy and was later elected to a full term that November. As lieutenant governor, he worked closely with the governor on statewide initiatives and represented the administration throughout Florida.

Before his appointment as lieutenant governor, Carlos served as Miami-Dade County property appraiser, overseeing the valuation of more than 1 million properties. He previously represented the 113th District in the Florida House of Representatives from 2004 to 2012, serving as House majority leader from 2010 to 2012

Carlos has more than 20 years of private sector experience with the Pan American group of companies, full-service real estate development and investment firms in Miami. He has expertise in real estate development, land economics, commercial, industrial and retail projects, management, planning, zoning and comprehensive master plan processes.

He holds an associate degree from Miami-Dade Community College and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Miami.
