Project Consultant

Alana Cotter is a Project Consultant working at the intersection of public affairs, corporate reputation and policy communications. She works with clients across energy, technology, health care, food and agriculture, bringing a policy‑driven approach to helping organizations manage risk, engage stakeholders, anticipate legislative and regulatory developments and operate effectively in complex public environments.

Before joining APCO, Alana worked with the Michigan Association of Beauty Professionals, where she supported member communications and tracked state‑level regulatory and licensing developments affecting the industry. Within the beauty industry, Alana also supported a small international business with branding and positioning, and worked for a MedSpa, adhering to branding requirements within a regulated professional environment. She also provided pro bono support to a disaster relief nonprofit, contributing to media outreach, community partnerships and content development.

Alana brings strong research, analysis and synthesis skills to her work, with experience translating legislative, regulatory and political developments into clear, actionable insights. Alana graduated from Michigan State University’s James Madison College with a degree in International Relations and a minor in Business, a background that informs her understanding of how policy, political dynamics and public perception intersect.
