Ara Tai Rākena is a consultant in APCO Worldwide’s Washington office. Based in the Global Solutions Practice, he focuses on complex issues at the intersection of business and geopolitics, assisting a variety of public and private sector clients to achieve their objectives by integrating issues and crisis management, traditional and social media, and stakeholder engagement into international project management.
A former diplomat, Mr. Tai Rākena spent seven years on rotations in Beijing, Taipei, and Wellington, focusing primarily on trade and economic issues in the Asia Pacific. As a foreign service officer, he worked on trade agreement negotiations and implementation, supporting companies with promotion and market access, assisting cabinet-level officials with communications and crisis contingency planning, and negotiating direct currency convertibility.
Mr. Tai Rākena obtained his masters in international relations from Georgetown University and speaks fluent English, Mandarin, French and Māori.
