Washington, D.C. (November 14, 2016) — Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz and Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Nisha Biswal announced Thursday at the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Washington, D.C. that APCO Worldwide, a global communications consultancy, has been selected as the chief organizing partner for the U.S. Pavilion at EXPO 2017, to be held in Astana, Kazakhstan from 10 June until 10 September 2017.
“APCO Worldwide has worked for decades to help our clients build a more prosperous, secure and cleaner energy future,” said Margery Kraus, founder and executive chairman of APCO Worldwide and chairman of the USA Pavilion at EXPO 2017. “We are honored to continue that work on behalf of the American people, and look forward to demonstrating that the only true source of infinite energy is the imagination, innovation, and ingenuity of our people.”
Developed by APCO, key partners Eurasia Foundation and BRC Imagination Arts, and in close collaboration with the U.S. Department of State and Department of Energy, the USA Pavilion will take visitors on a journey that transforms them from spectators waiting for solutions to change-makers ready to work together to create a better future.
Guests will not only see past innovations, but will get to speak with the innovators of the future, a team of 40 student ambassadors who will guide guests through a working ‘innovation lab’ where visitors from around the world can meet, share ideas and build the future.
“EXPO 2017 is truly a unique event focused on addressing a defining issue of our time: the urgent need for better energy solutions,” said Dr. Joshua Walker, C.E.O. of the USA Pavilion at EXPO 2017. “Next summer will be an opportunity for the world to see in full sight that the United States – both in the public and private sectors – is dedicated to working with global partners to lead, innovate, and ultimately change the way we talk about, consume and produce energy.”
At Thursday’s launch event, Ms. Kraus thanked champions of the Pavilion “Secretary Moniz, Assistant Secretary Biswal, General Electric, Chevron, the Embassy of Kazakhstan in the United States and the many others who donated their time, energy and passion to ensuring the United States will be enthusiastically represented at Expo 2017 in Astana, Kazakhstan.”
Secretary Moniz highlighted the important role Kazakhstan has played in advancing energy: “For twenty five years Kazakhstan has been a close, important partner for the Department of Energy. Today we have another partnership in Expo.”
