New York (October 27, 2016) – W. Allen Shapard, a prominent communications and branding expert and former senior vice president, global partnerships at WME/IMG, joined APCO Worldwide as senior director, chair of public engagement strategies, announced Nelson Fernandez, chairman, North America and managing director of APCO’s New York office.
“Throughout his career, Allen has established a proven track record as an effective brand marketing and strategic communications expert,” Fernandez said. “His experience advising some of the most prominent international organizations, corporations, institutions and notable individuals will be of tremendous value to our clients as they face a complex, ever-changing world. We’re delighted to welcome Allen to APCO.”
Prior to joining APCO, Shapard served as senior vice president, global partnerships, and head of global institutions group for WME/IMG, the international media, marketing, entertainment and sports conglomerate. As senior vice president, Shapard led a multi-disciplinary, international strategic practice, helping clients increase global awareness and impact.
During his time with WME/IMG, Shapard led multinational teams to advise leading corporations, nonprofits and governments including the Nobel Foundation and Norwegian Nobel Institute, Dubai World Expo 2020, YMCA, AARP, Samsung, Honeywell, AT&T and the US Institute of Peace. He has also proven himself as a leader in the world of corporate social responsibility and philanthropy, providing strategic counsel to major global actors such as Alwaleed Philanthropies, BP, Volvo, UNHCR and Cantor Fitzgerald.
In addition, Shapard has created and executed significant thought leadership campaigns for major corporations, such as Cisco’s Public Sector Summit, KPMG Center for Leadership and Business Ethics, and the Honeywell-Nobel Digital Initiative.
Shapard first joined IMG in 1996 as vice president and associate general counsel. Before joining WME/IMG, he spent three years as an associate counsel at Morrison & Foerster and Dow Lohnes in Washington, D.C.

Shapard holds a bachelor’s degree from Yale University, a master of philosophy degree in international relations from Cambridge University and a juris doctor degree from the University of Virginia.
