Jose Hermocillo, managing director of APCO Worldwide’s Sacramento office, has extensive experience in public affairs advocacy and corporate communication on a wide range of issues.
For more than three decades, Mr. Hermocillo has played a key role in successful legislative, regulatory and ballot measure campaigns related to workers’ compensation reform, civil justice reform, pension rights, collective bargaining rights, consumer privacy rights, a discount prescription drug program, and endangered species protection. He has also counseled corporations and industry groups in the manufacturing, health care, retail, energy and education sectors through times of crisis and transition.
Mr. Hermocillo has helped numerous clients secure entitlements and permits to build or expand master-planned communities, landfills and energy infrastructure projects. He has also helped public agencies pass tax and benefit assessment proposals for urban revitalization and public works.
Prior to helping open APCO's Sacramento office in 1996, Mr. Hermocillo was a principal in a political consulting firm. He previously lobbied for a statewide labor union and practiced law with Felderstein, Rosenberg & McManus. His career began as a committee consultant in the California State Senate.
Mr. Hermocillo is a senior fellow of the Mountain Valley Chapter of the American Leadership Forum and serves as a director on the boards of Sierra Health Foundation, Valley Vision and the Capital Region Foundation.
In 2008, Mr. Hermocillo was named one of Sacramento magazine's “100 Most Powerful and Influential” people. The previous year, he was recognized as “Public Affairs Executive of the Year” by PR News, one of the industry’s leading national publications.
Mr. Hermocillo earned his Bachelor of Arts from Pomona College, where he was recognized with distinction in the government department. He went on to obtain a Juris Doctor from the University of the Pacific’s McGeorge School of Law. After being admitted to the State Bar of California, he received a certificate in trial and appellate advocacy from Hastings College of Law, University of California.
