Zoe Thorogood is a director in APCO’s Washington office where, drawing on her extensive experience in politics, journalism and communications, she specializes in counseling clients on public affairs and international strategic communications.
Before joining APCO, Ms. Thorogood worked as a press advisor to British Prime Minister David Cameron during his successful 2015 re-election campaign. She also served as a political special advisor to Sir Eric Pickles, Secretary of State for the Department of Communities and Local Government.
Ms. Thorogood led communications strategy across all of the department’s policies including; housing and planning, local government finance, fire, integration, extremism and faith relations, advising Downing Street on these areas. Ms. Thorogood also authored op-eds, liaised with journalists on the Secretary of State’s behalf and accompanied him on international visits, including to China, where she showcased UK planning and housing policy and helped secure future business investment.
Prior to her time in government, Ms. Thorogood worked for the UK Conservative Party ahead of the 2010 general election where, as head of broadcast and lifestyle press, she delivered an innovative media campaign focused on strategically targeting specific voters and groups. Prior to the campaign, Ms. Thorogood was a live news editor at the UK’s biggest breakfast television news show and traveled extensively in the UK and U.S. covering the biggest stories of the day.
Ms. Thorogood is a journalism graduate of Bournemouth University.
